Caregivers Program: This program targets individuals with experience in the field of caregiving, whether for the elderly or for children. Recently, Canada has renewed this program and introduced two pilot pathways: the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot.
Home Child Care Provider Pilot: This pathway is available for foreign workers to work in Canada as child care providers. Its goal is to meet the needs of Canadian families by obtaining caregivers with professional experience and knowledge in raising their children and to provide employment opportunities for foreign workers in the field of child care.
Home Support Worker Pilot: This pathway is available for foreign workers to work in Canada as home support workers due to disability, aging, or chronic diseases. The program aims to provide comprehensive support and care for individuals with special needs within their familiar environment without the need to go to specialized institutions. It aims to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the program’s beneficiaries in their homes by offering care services without the need to leave their homes, and to alleviate the burden and pressure on healthcare systems by reducing the number of residents in care facilities.

**Requirements for Temporary Residency for Both Pathways:** Proficiency in English or French with a score of no less than 5 on the Canadian Language Benchmarks. The applicant must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education, obtained a valid job offer from an employer in Canada with the condition that the job is full-time at 30 hours per week, and the job should be exempt from a Labour Market Impact Assessment to facilitate the hiring process for caregivers. The applicant should have experience in the field of caregiving and provide proof, such as certificates or recommendations.

**Requirements for Permanent Residency for Both Pathways:** Proof of work experience in the required profession for a period ranging from 12 to 24 months in Canada on a full-time basis (30 hours per week) during the last 3 years of the applicant’s stay in Canada. Proof of language proficiency in English or French through a recognized language test in Canada, with the applicant scoring at least 5 in IELTS in all sections except reading, where a minimum score of 4 is required. Post-secondary educational certificate. Proof of a valid job offer from an employer in Canada.

Permanent residency allows the holder and their family to preserve their rights, access public education and job opportunities, and be equal to Canadian citizens. In 2019, the Canadian government announced the launch of a new immigration program that allows caregivers for children and those with special needs to come with their families and gives them the opportunity to become permanent residents in the country. The Immigration Minister at the time said that under the program, barriers that previously prevented family members of caregivers from coming to Canada would be removed, and open work permits would be issued to their spouses in addition to study permits for their children, granting them permanent residency to demonstrate their commitment to caregivers.

In conclusion, Canada’s Caregivers Program is one of the distinguished programs aimed at attracting and recruiting global talents and expertise in the fields of health, social, and educational care. This program has provided opportunities for qualified immigrants to work and settle in Canada as caregivers, helping to meet the needs of the population and reduce the burden on the healthcare and social systems in the country. At the same time, the permanent residency granted to caregivers has allowed them to improve their living conditions and benefit from a wide range of opportunities and rights, including access to healthcare and social services, work and education rights, and equality with Canadian citizens in most aspects.
